2010-08-12: Barclays Capital to cut hundreds of jobs
Barclays Capital is set to cut hundreds of jobs in its back office in an effort to cut costs, according to media reports.
Across Barclays, more than 2,400 back office jobs have been offshored, with 71 percent of operational sites closed in the last four years. The company has been extensively cutting IT staff. Last year it planned to cut 700 technology staff, reportedly offshoring work to Singapore, Hungary and India.

“We are currently reducing headcount by approximately 75 in the United Kingdom in the investment bank and certain support functions,” the Zurich-based bank said in an e-mailed statement. “This involves both shifting resources to growth areas and adjusting capacity to meet client needs and to manage costs across the business,” the bank added.

2010-08-08: Pricewaterhouse sending IT jobs to India
In the Tampa Bay area alone, where Pricewaterhouse has swelled to become one of the region's biggest employers, the company dispatched HR jobs to Costa Rica, graphics jobs to Uruguay and database jobs to India. It confirmed a week ago that it's cutting 500 information technology positions, nearly all in Tampa, and sending the work to India-based Tata Consulting Services.
Bolock, an Oracle database administrator who worked 11 years for the company, initially stayed to train his replacement with Indian outsource firm Infosys.
“Our goal was to make the people from TCS (Tata Consulting) and Infosys look good,” he said.
